Dear All,
I know many of you have been waiting for our year’s end news letter to update you on events at Viveros Resort before Panama’s dry season arrives.
The last few months have been very productive and in spite of some delays on amenities, people can still enjoy the Resort.
Our phase one reforestation plan is under way in accordance with our commitment to Panama’s environmental agency (ANAM) . We are planting 2,646 trees and bushes including palms and fruit trees. The fruit trees have special importance in attracting tropical birds like parrots, to the island. The native vegetation does not have any fruit trees.
Thanks to the reforestation we will improve the landscaping, including creating a park on the North Hotel site. There you will find the eight rooms in the cottage hotel and the beach restaurant. The marina is near to open; it will be nice to see it full of boats.

Sé que muchos de ustedes han estado esperando nuestro boletín de fin de año para actualizarlos sobre los eventos de Viveros Resort, antes que inicie la temporada seca en Panamá. Los últimos meses han sido muy productivos y a pesar de algunos retrasos en instalaciones, los invitados pueden disfrutar del Resort.
La fase uno de nuestro plan de reforestación esta en movimiento de acuerdo con nuestro compromiso con la Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente de Panamá (ANAM). Estamos plantando 2,646 árboles y arbustos, incluyendo palmas y frutales. Los árboles frutales tienen una importancia especial para atraer aves tropicales a la isla ya que la vegetación nativa no los tiene.
Reforestando podremos mejorar la arquitectura del paisaje incluyendo un parque en la parte norte del hotel. Allí usted apreciará las ocho habitaciones en el hotel Cottage y el restaurante de playa. La marina está pronta a abrir sus puertas, será muy agradable verla llena de yates.

As the world’s economy begins to recover from the financial crisis, the Panamanian economy is poised to rebound. Some forecasters have predicted a 5% GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for the upcoming year while the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean projects a 4.5 percent growth rate.
The growth is fueled by the Canal expansion and major infrastructure projects, including the extension of the recently completed $189 million Cinta Costera (coastal strip) around the Bay of Panama.
In the third quarter of 2009 the GDP rose by 1.1% and the government forecasts an overall GDP of 3% for the year, demonstrating that Panama withstood the global downturn and, although there was s slow down in some areas there was growth in others of 8.8 percent, and the economy never sank into a recession.
There are other major projects on the horizon, including public building projects and Panama’s metro system.
Meanwhile, in spite of the world downturn property prices and rentals in the area continue to increase.

A medida que la economía mundial comienza a recuperarse de la crisis financiera, la economía panameña está preparada para el rebote. Algunos pronosticadores han previsto un 5 % del PIB (producto interno bruto) para el próximo año mientras la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe proyecta una tasa de crecimiento de 4,5 %.
El crecimiento es impulsado por la expansión de canal y proyectos de infraestructura importantes, incluida la extensión de la recientemente finalizada Cinta Costera de 189 millones de dólares alrededor de la Bahía de Panamá.
En el tercer trimestre de 2009 el PIB aumentó un 1.1% y las previsiones de Gobierno un PIB global del 3 % anual, demostrando que Panamá resistió la recesión mundial y, aunque hubo desaceleración en algunas áreas, hubo crecimiento en otras de 8,8% y la economía nunca se hundió en una recesión.

A massive planting of trees of dozens of varieties, many of them new to the island, has begun on Isla Viveros. The planting is in line with our commitment to Panama’s environmental agency (ANAM), and to residents to further enhance the natural beauty of the island.
The existing greenery contains few trees with a girth of more than a few centimeters. That will be changed dramatically with the planting of 2,646 trees that will bring additional color and provide food for the multitude of tropical birds in the region including parrots, parakeets and macaw.
The initial introductions on the north of the island will create three major plantations, each containing a varied selection of trees. The trees will be located in the area of the hotel, the restaurant and the lake, covering areas from 3,500 square meters, 8,477 meters and 8,513 meters, and will also line roadsides.
The plantings are under the direction of our resident environmental consultant, who will ensure they are adequately spaced to allow for individual growth, providing sight lines and remaining free of rastrojo, (tropical vines). He will also ensure that each tree is located in an area best suited for its development.
Una plantación masiva de árboles en docenas de variedades se ha iniciado en Isla Viveros. Este trabajo de sembrados – que incluye la introducción de nuevas especies – es parte de nuestro compromiso con la Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente (ANAM) y con los residentes, de añadir a la belleza natural de la isla.
En las áreas verdes, existen pocos árboles que tengan un diámetro mayor a unos centímetros. Eso cambiará dramáticamente con la siembra de 2,646 árboles que añadirán color y proveerán alimento para las muchas aves tropicales de la región, como pericos, loros y guacamayas.
La introduccion inicial en el norte de la isla conformará tres grandes plantíos. Cada uno tendrá un selección variada de arboles y estarán ubicados alrededor del hotel, el restaurante y el lago. Cubrirán áreas de 3,500 m² 8,477 m² y 8,513 m² y a lo largo de los caminos.
La siembra está bajo la supervisión de nuestro consultor ambiental residente quien se asegurará que los árboles sean correctamente espaciados para permitir su crecimiento individual. Esto permitirá líneas visuales limpias y libres de rastrojos y lianas. El consultor también se encargará de ubicar a cada árbol en el lugar con las mejores condiciones para su desarrollo.

When the dry season sets in, he will oversee the regular watering of the new growth, and when the rainy season returns, residents will witness spectacular growth.
The trees will provide color, scent and fruit, a nesting and feeding place for birds and monkeys.
Panama has one of the most diverse and colorful bird populations in the world and planting fruit trees will be an environmental bonus, both for local birds and migratory flocks.
Among the trees being introduced are a variety of palms from dwarf royals and red palms to majestic coconut palms.
There’s nothing like coconut juice straight from the tree to freshen your drink or quench your thirst.
The trees that will be introduced include a full citrus range including lemon, mango, grapefruit and orange, first providing colorful and scented flowers, followed by an abundance of colorful fruit.
There will also be avocados, red and yellow acacias, mussaenda’s and Tabogana rose trees from Taboga, the Island of Flowers, which nestles close to Panama City.
Durante la estación seca, nuestro consultor supervisará el riego regular del nuevo crecimiento, así cuando retorne la estación lluviosa, los residentes serán testigos de un crecimiento espectacular.
Los árboles añadirán color, fragancia y fruta; un lugar de refugio y alimentación para pájaros y monos. Panamá posee una de las poblaciones de pájaros más coloridas del mundo y plantar árboles frutales será un valor agregado tanto para las aves locales como para las bandadas
migratorias.
Entre los árboles introducidos se incluye una variedad de palmas, desde enanas reales hasta las majestuosas palmas cocoteras. No hay nada mejor que el jugo fresco de un coco recién cosechado para saciar su sed o añadir a su bebida.
Los árboles introducidos pertenecen a un amplio rango: limones, toronjas, mango, naranjas. Producirán coloridas y fragantes flores, seguidas
de abundante fruta.
También habrán aguacates, acacias rojas y amarillas, mussaendas y rosas taboganas, estas ultimas nativas de la vecina Isla Taboga.
